Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers. Real people. No automated nonsense. Here's what people often ask, and if you need more clarity, just reach out. We'll get back to you.

Questions for Companies

What types of staff can Driveforce supply?

We have significant experience recruiting across a wide range of roles, from professional drivers and site-based workers to administrative, dispatch, operations, and middle-to-senior management positions. While we specialise in the transport, logistics and civil sectors, our reach includes both blue-collar and white-collar placements. Whether you need someone behind the wheel or behind the desk, we can help.

Can I hire someone permanently after using the on-hire?

Yes. If an on-hire worker proves to be the right fit for your team, we offer seamless transition to permanent hire, with fair and transparent terms.

Do you only supply drivers?

No. While driver staffing is one of our specialist strengths, Driveforce supplies a broad range of operational, administrative, and leadership talent to transport, logistics and civil businesses. Refer to FAQ 1 for the full scope.

How do you screen and assess your people?

At Driveforce, background checks, licence verification, and reference confirmation are only the start. Every driver must also verbally demonstrate their understanding of critical procedures,  including pre-start checks, load security, trailer coupling/decoupling, reversing practices, general safety, and logbook compliance.

If it’s appropriate, we can conduct in-cab assessments in your vehicles, either independently or in collaboration with your supervisors.

For higher-level or specialist roles, we can extend the recruitment process to include deeper assessments,  from advanced technical evaluations through to psychometric testing, ensuring the right person is matched not just for the job, but for your team and culture.

Do you service areas outside Tauranga?

Yes. While our on-hire and mentoring services are primarily focused on Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty, Driveforce’s recruitment systems are designed to support permanent placements anywhere in New Zealand

We have the latest recruitment technology and processes to source, assess, and place the right people nationwide, ensuring the same level of care, communication, and performance standards, regardless of location.

What are your payment terms?

Standard payment terms are 7 days from the date of invoice. These terms allow us to maintain competitive pricing, ensure we pay our people promptly, and continue delivering the high level of service our clients expect.

We understand some businesses may require extended payment terms. Where this is needed, we’re open to formalising an agreement in writing. Depending on the credit limit required, a personal guarantee may also be requested to support the arrangement.

How much notice do I need to give for a relief worker?

More notice is always better to ensure the right fit, but we understand things change quickly. Let us know your needs as early as possible, and we’ll work with you to make it happen.

Can you supply workers at short notice if needed?

Where we have the right people available, we’ll act quickly to support you. If it’s a genuine emergency, Driveforce management will personally step in to help coordinate a solution.

We don’t overpromise, but we do take ownership, communicate clearly, and do everything we can to get you covered.

Do I need to provide PPE or gear for on-hire staff?

Our drivers and on-hire staff will come prepared with standard PPE, including a high-visibility vest, steel-capped safety boots, a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and wet weather gear. If your site or the particular role requires specialised equipment, you will need to provide this.

Do you offer perfomance guarantees?

We stand behind the people we place. If a placement doesn’t meet expectations, we’ll address the issue quickly, professionally, and work with you to find a practical solution. Our focus is always on getting it right – not just filling a gap.

Do you offer competitve pricing for long-term or ongoing work?

Absolutely. We value continuity and long-term relationships. If you have ongoing or volume-based staffing needs, we’re happy to discuss tailored pricing that supports your operational goals while maintaining the high standards our brand represents.

Questions for Workers

Do I need to apply for a specific job to register?

No. If you’ve got experience in transport, logistics or civil – whether you’re a driver, dispatcher, office worker or business manager, we encourage you to register your interest at any time. You don’t have to wait for the perfect job listing to appear. We’ll keep your details on file, get in touch, and actively look for opportunities that match your skills, preferences, and availability.

Can I register interest even if I'm currently employed?

Yes, and we’ll treat your enquiry with complete confidentiality. Many of the people we help are already working but open to change. If you’re looking for better conditions, more flexibility, or a fresh start, you can register with us discreetly. We’ll follow up respectfully, have a one-on-one conversation, or even catch up for a coffee, to get a deeper understanding of how we can help you.

Will someone actually contact me if I submit my details?

Yes. We don’t use automated filters or ghost people. Every registration is reviewed by a real person, and we’ll follow up with direct communication. It might not be immediate, and it might not lead to a role straight away, but we’ll always acknowledge your effort, and we’ll stay in touch.

How do I know I won't just be a number?

At Driveforce, people come first, always. You’ll have direct contact with someone who listens, follows through, and respects your time. We build long-term relationships with the people we work with, and if you’re part of our network, you’re treated as part of the team, not just a number.

What happens once I register my interest in joining the Driveforce team?

Once we receive your details, we’ll review your background and assess whether there’s a current opportunity that aligns with your experience and preferences. If there’s a match, we’ll be in touch to discuss next steps.

If there isn’t an immediate fit, we’ll keep your information on file for future roles and may reach out when something suitable comes up. While we can’t personally respond to every application straight away, we value every submission and always aim to communicate clearly when there’s a genuine opportunity to explore.

If I'm currently self-employed, can I work as an independent contractor through Driveforce?

Yes, absolutely. If you’re correctly set up as a contractor or sole trader, we can engage with you directly for on-demand or fixed-term assignments. You’ll invoice us for your time, and we’ll work with you just like any other professional service provider, clearly, respectfully, and with a focus on long-term relationships.

How do I become an independent contractor with Driveforce?

If you’re a sole trader or operate through a GST-registered company, we can engage you under our standard Independent Contractor Agreement. Simply register your interest, and we’ll be in contact to discuss how we can work together.

We’re always looking to connect with high-quality professionals, including owner-operators.

What are the pay rates?

We pay appropriately for the role and the value you bring. Pay rates vary based on the job, location, and whether you’re working as a contractor or employee. You’ll always know the rate upfront — no surprises.

Do you supply uniforms or PPE?

If you’re working as an employee, we’ll provide standard PPE. Contractors are expected to supply their own PPE, but Driveforce will issue a branded HIVIS vest, which must be worn while representing us on-site. For any specialist or site-specific equipment, we’ll let you know in advance, and either the client will supply it, or we’ll help you get set up before you start.

When will I be paid?

You’ll be paid on Thursday for all approved hours worked in the previous Monday to Sunday week, provided you’ve submitted a completed and authorised timesheet.

What if the client wants to employ me directly?

If a client you’ve been working with through Driveforce wants to bring you on permanently, that’s a great outcome. We support direct employment opportunities where it makes sense for everyone. There may be a placement process or agreement involved between Driveforce and the client, but you won’t be penalised or blocked. If it’s the right fit, we’ll help make it happen the right way.

Industry Insights

At Driveforce, we believe culture isn’t just a “nice-to-have.” In transport, it’s the unseen force that fuels retention, safety, performance, and ultimately profitability. Companies that see hiring as only ticking boxes often face high employee turnover, rising costs, and safety issues. Those that get it right build strong teams that perform well and stay.

At Driveforce, we’ve seen significant change since 1985 — in how people are recruited, how businesses manage safety, and how logistics operate daily. This article examines what’s changed, what’s still evolving, and what the future holds.

When recruiting, it’s natural to be influenced by what a candidate claims they can do. Many people are skilled at presenting themselves well, and without asking the right questions, you might end up making assumptions instead of truly understanding their abilities. This could lead to the challenging situation of hiring someone for a role they aren’t quite ready for.

Ready to Move?

If you’re a business looking for workforce solutions in the transport, logistics or civil sectors, let’s talk.
If you’re a skilled professional who wants to be respected, listened to, and placed where you can thrive, we’re here to help you find more than just a job.
